Latest News Update On 14 September 2022: Kumardhubi resident Anil Bhuiyan, convicted of gang-raping a 13-year-old minor returning home alone from a wedding ceremony, was sentenced to life imprisonment by a court on Tuesday and a fine of Rs 10,000.
The court of POCSO Special Judge Prabhakar Singh had convicted him on Monday itself. After hearing on the point of punishment on Tuesday, the court said that the act of the convict is not pardonable. Anil Bhuyan is currently lodged in jail in judicial custody. An FIR was lodged against him by a minor victim of his locality at Chirkunda police station on 18 March 2019. The victim had also accused her three associates, including Tubra. However, as all three were minors, their case was transferred to the Juvenile Justice Board. The victim had said that on March 13-2019, she was returning home alone from the wedding ceremony of her locality at around 10 pm. Finding her alone on the way, the accused dragged her to the broken house in front of the Hanuman temple, where the four misbehaved with her.
