Latest News Update On 5 October 2022: Preparations are on to start the Chief Minister Accident Insurance Scheme in the state soon. The state govt has already given its green signal. But due to paucity of money it could not be started yet.
Actually, 8.29 crore workers are registered on the e-shram portal in the state. They need more than Rs 160 crore to give benefit of this scheme. But the Social Security Board of the Labor Department has a budget of only 12 crores for this. Now an initiative is being taken to find another way out. Under the Chief Minister Accident Insurance Scheme, there is a provision of giving two lakh rupees in case of death in an accident. The workers had to be insured to pay for this profit. Earlier its premium was Rs 12, but later it increased to Rs 20 per person. In such a situation, to cover more than 8 crore people with accident insurance, a budget of more than Rs 160 crore is required to pay the premium.
Due to non-introduction of the scheme, crores of workers in the unorganized sector are not getting its benefits. Keeping this in mind, now other options are being considered for starting the scheme. If sources are to be believed, preparations are being made to hold a meeting of the Group of Ministers soon. Any other way to began the scheme will be figured out in this meeting. Experts say that instead of the insurance company, if the amount is given to the relatives of the deceased in the accident from the level of the department itself, then work can be done even in a low budget.

For the first time in the country, the central government is preparing a database of crores of workers in the unorganized sector. For this, everyone has been registered on the e-shram portal. UP has set a record in this matter in the country. Here 8.29 crore people have been registered on the e-shram portal.
